GIL SCOTT-HERON was widely viewed as a potential superstar in 1974 when he became the first performer signed by Clive Davis at Arista Records. The lanky poet-cum-songwriter, who concludes a three-night engagement at the Roxy tonight, may not have racked up sizable sales figures since then, but he doesn't appear to be particularly concerned about the usual gauges of career success.
